Colin Harper, author of Bathed In Lightning: John McLaughlin, the 60s and the Emerald Beyond (Jawbone, 2014), has a lavishly illustrated companion volume, Echoes From Then, completed and ready to self-publish in a very limited run. He has a Kickstarter campaign to cover printing costs for 200 copies ending on 16 August – see link below.

The book covers the same 1959-75 period as its predecessor but features substantial new research and focuses in depth on hitherto neglected episodes such as Big Pete Deuchar’s Professors of Ragtime (1959-60) and the Tony Meehan Combo (1963). There also more McLaughlin-related archaeology on Graham Bond, Georgie Fame, Ray Ellington and Duffy Power and further insight on the second Mahavishnu Orchestra (1974-75), plus an interview with Gene Perla: the Pete Best of the first MO!

The book also includes an exhaustive discography, sessionography and concert chronology for 1963-75, plus vintage Melody Maker, NME, Sounds and Disc pieces licensed in full from Richard Williams and others and rare photos from Christian Rose, Jak Kilby, Bill Smith and others.
