…the #StringQuartets are of the highest order, actually. Brahms-ish but less dense. Bruch-esque, but tighter.

JazzWax Nancy, Lori and Hank

This week in The Wall Street Journal,
I interviewed women’s basketball legend Nancy Lieberman for my “House Call” section in the Mansion section (go here). Nancy grew up hard in the Far Rockaway section of Queens, N.Y. Her parents fought bitterly, which pushed her out onto her grade-school basketball courts just to get out of the house. Then as a kid, she traveled up to Rucker Park in Harlem to find even tougher male competition on the court. The guys named her “Fire” and took her under their wing, even accompanying her home to be sure she was safe. [Photo above of Nancy Lieberman in the pool at her home near Dallas by Jonathan Zizzo for The Wall Street Journal]

Here’s a bio clip that will make you fall in love with Nancy…

And here’s Nancy showing off with humility…

Oddball album cover of the week.

Another “suburban living” album cover. It would seem from this image that the home’s two occupants and their two guests all lost in strip poker in the same hand.
