Ever wonder what it was like to watch arranger Oliver Nelson conduct an ensemble? Thanks to YouTube and reader Hans Dorrscheidt, we can. Hans sent along a video of Nelson with Dutch singer Rita Reys performing on television in the Netherlands in 1966. In the past, I never cared much for Reys but I’m starting to dig her approach and charm more and more. Here’s Nelson, trumpeters Benny Bailey and Art Farmer, the Pim Jacobs Trio, and others performing It Could Happen to You with a June Christy feel…

I wish the rest of this Dutch television show would surface. Nelson and Reys also recorded Corcovado, You Don’t Know What Love Is and Call Me Irresponsible.
