Goldmine Magazine Is the latest Rolling Stones’ behemoth vinyl box set worth the big bucks?

Classic Album Sundays Classic Album Sundays Sydney presents Blondie ‘Parallel Lines’

It’s hard to believe the watershed third album from punk pioneers Blondie turns 40 this month. Debbie Harry & co.’s influence on all manner of pop music, dance and postpunk seems to loom larger than ever.

Combining postpunk, power pop, disco and New York attitude, and featuring massive hits like “Heart of Glass” and “One Way or Another,” Parallel Lines took the sound of the American underground to the mainstream and permanently defined New Wave cool.

On Sunday September 16, Classic Album Sundays will present this masterpiece uninterrupted on vinyl and in hi-fi at The World Bar, with journalist, 2ser host and and lifelong Blondie fan Paris Groovescooter along as our special guest.

Stick around for the afterparty where we’ll clear away the chairs, get on the decks and spin new wave and disco and other on-theme sounds both new and old, giving our CAS family a chance to party up and get a little more loose than usual!

Classic Album Sundays Classic Album Sundays Miami presents Jane’s Addiction ‘Nothing’s Shocking’

Formed in Los Angeles in the mid-80s, Jane’s Addiction set a standard for driving, passionate and sonically crushing alternative rock before the term was even coined. They were flamboyant and provocative, with an equal interest in visual art, fashion, and 70s era guitar riffs.

Like most great bands, it was not a single member whose contribution was greater: Perry Farrell’s unique voice and lyrics, Dave Navarro’s guitar riffs and wailing leads, Eric Avery’s sturdy basslines, and one of rock’s greatest and most powerful drummers, Stephen Perkins. Nothing’s Shocking remains one of the most important alternative albums of all time.

Join us to experience this album as never before.

The album is available to buy here.

This event will be a special double header featuring Siamese Dream by Smashing Pumpkins.

Ionarts Forbes Classical CD Of The Week: Anton Batagov’s Bach Is For Tripping

…What we’ve got here, from the venerable Russian record company Melodiya, is very easily the most horrifying recording of Bach’s Partitas ever to have been made. Or so might suggest – quite understandably – any number of Bach-adoring champions of these works. I totally understand… only: I love it.
