Goldmine1 A ‘Special’ Elvis 50th anniversary box

If you want the Elvis ’68 Special on Blu-ray, this box set is the only way to get it (for now). It’s also the only way to acquire the enclosed book. But if you already have the previous CD and DVD sets, whether it’s worth the $100 price tag to get everything in one collection depends on the state of your pocketbook.

#FromTheCradleToTheGrave, #Liszt’s little known depiction of Scandinavian social democratic collectivism.
But seriously: the line in Liszt between inspiration and redundant noodling is rather thin. Still awesome for this recording

Moon_Ray Bizarre Releases On Discogs, December 2018

In April 2018 Earjerk started a thread in the Discogs Database Forum asking Contributors to list they’re noteworthy or curious additions to the database: “Post your interesting new additions to the database here…” Here’s the best of the bunch from December 2018. Next time you add something weird, wonderful, rare or noteworthy in any way, share it in that forum thread for all to see

Unknown Artist - LegWork: An Introduction To Fitness Walking For Patients With Osteoporosis After Menopause album cover

Unknown Artist – LegWork: An Introduction To Fitness Walking For Patients With Osteoporosis After Menopause

Cass – US

  • Year: 1997
  • Styles: Promotional, Health-Fitness
  • Submitted By: ahr2nd
  • “Brought to you by Bone Matters™—an educational support program for patients receiving MIACALCIN® (calcitonin-salmon) Nasal Spray Therapy.” I agree with ahr2nd that tapes have the greatest potential for non-conventional releases like this. It would be ludicrous to press it to vinyl, and if made in the internet age this would just be another hour long YouTube video, devoid of all that extra package design that makes this such a trip. Long live the cassette tape.

The Collective (16) - Sounds From The 59th Zoo album cover

The Collective (16) – Sounds From The 59th Zoo

LP – US

  • Year: 1998
  • Styles: Drum n Bass, Techno, Downtempo
  • Submitted By: Diognes_The_Fox
  • It’s a pretty incredible feat to find DnB/Techno (let alone anything Electronic) that’s not already in the Database these days. Props! Does anyone own this? I would to hear it. Mark Garcia, Writer and Producer on this album, wrote some super fun electro-breaks-hip-hop tracks that got rinsed on the San Jo airwaves waaaay back in the mid 90s.

  • Back in the 60s, as part of their aggressive new business expansion, Sony was working hard to sell the next big thing: stereophonic sound. They recorded various sounds (from trains to music) in stereo for demonstrative purposes.

Various – Iriodin® (Pearlpigments The Attractive Eye-catch)

LP, Comp, Whi – Brazil

Heinz Meynhardt - Das Jahr Des Schwarzwildes album cover

Heinz Meynhardt – Das Jahr Des Schwarzwildes

  • Your guess is as good as mine as to what’s going on in the cover photo, but according to Wikipedia, Heinz was “an internationally acclaimed wild boar expert…He has published numerous books and 32 films about the life of the wild boar”.

No Artist - New Orthophonic Frequency Test Record album cover

No Artist – New Orthophonic Frequency Test Record

10, S/Sided – US

  • Year: Unknown
  • Styles: Technical

  • These are quite rare today. It demonstrates the exact tones on each frequency response and is the kind of record you would put on if you wanted people to leave the room.

Unknown Artist - Untitled album cover

Unknown Artist – Untitled

LP – US

  • Year: 1997
  • Styles: Conscious
  • Submitted By: Diognes_The_Fox
  • The chat around this submission was (and will continue to be) really fun to watch unfold. How do you submit a record without knowing what language the label is written in…? Someone joked the text might be Egyptian hieroglyphs, until one Contributor with a little more ancient nous picked it as Persian cuneiform. A full English translation is still pending but currently we’re at “ru-earth-king-[first logogram of ‘Ahuramazda’]-ru-du-sa”. Anyone out there got any clues? We’re looking to translate the Database Guidelines into Persian cuneiform by the end of the month.

Unknown Artist – Tiger Fever: Ode To The Paws And Claws

LP – US

  • Year: 1981
  • Styles: Country
  • Submitted By: Diognes_The_Fox
  • According to the member forums on TigerNet there are some classic Clemson Tiger tailgate party starters on this one. It was distributed by Napa Distribution Center who were shamelessly team agnostic. Probably because they’re an auto parts distributor, not a music distributor.

Rev. O.L. Holliday - The Assassination Of President Kennedy And The Crucifixion Of Jesus album cover

Rev. O.L. Holliday – The Assassination Of President Kennedy And The Crucifixion Of Jesus

LP, Album – US

  • Submitted By: Diognes_The_Fox
  • According to Rev. O.L. Holliday the assassination of JFK, thirty-fifth President of the United States, at 12:30 p.m. Central Standard Time (18:30 UTC) on Friday, November 22, 1963, in Dealey Plaza, Dallas, Texas was felt by many African-American communities as a loss of hope for better days, and is thus comparable to the crucifixion of Christ.

Benton & Bowles - Benton & Bowles Creative Review Jingle Jam: February 26, 1957 album cover

Benton & Bowles – Benton & Bowles Creative Review Jingle Jam: February 26, 1957

LP, Red – US

  • Year: 1957
  • Styles: Promotional
  • Submitted By: Diognes_The_Fox
  • Benton & Bowles was a NYC advertising agency, founded in 1929, that pushed the boundaries of marketing and advertising through the early adoption of coupons, adapting copy to local demographics and employing celebrities for endorsement. But they owe most of their success to the rapid rise in popularity of radio. Mr. Bowles wrote and produced many soap operas, and is often credited as the first to use cue cards to generate laughter and applause from studio audiences, and the first to employ branded sound effects and jingles in shows.
