C M Artist Of The Week: VELVET SHAKES

VELVET SHAKES are our Artist Of The Week! This Manchester band is a “kaleidoscopic cosmic collision” of sound that transcends genres. Indie guitar melodies swirl with sweeping psychedelic synths, while a healthy injection of club-inflected disco flavour keeps things upbeat and alluringly danceable. Rock-solid grooves that sit right in the pocket and lovely vocal harmonies round out an interstellar package that cries out to be played at house parties and rooftop shindigs as the sun sets. Why not give our favourite track “The Place That You Belong” a spin next time a party needs a shot of infectious energy?

C M Artist Of The Week: Dan Bond

Dan Bond is this week’s Artist Of The Week! This Bedfordshire-based singer/songwriter is influenced by pop and country music, especially John Mayer, Jason Mraz, Brad Paisley, Buddy Holly, yet stands on his own with emotive and relatable words, a powerhouse voice and a road-worn level of musicianship that can only be gained by years of touring. Having performed all over the country, Dan has definitely earned his stripes. Check out our choice cut, the recently released “If It’s Alright” to hear what this talented songsmith is all about!

C M Artist Of The Week: Bethany Ferrie

Bethany Ferrie is our Artist Of The Week! Growing up in Glasgow, she was first drawn to music as a young child by her dad’s guitar playing. This facination quickly turned into her writing her own original songs during her high school years. Influenced by the writing of Taylor Swift, Nina Nesbitt and Julia Michaels, her upbeat and punchy guitar-driven pop is underscored with confessional lyrics that anyone can easily relate to.  Check out our favourite track “Say Say Say” below:

C M Artist Of The Week: Hayes & Y

Our Artist Of The Week is Hayes & Y! Based in Manchester, but made up of members from all over the places, including Finland and Bulgaria, this four-piece creates 80’s-inflected synth pop, full of slinky basslines and infinitely danceable grooves. Perfect for picking up the pace at any rooftop party or barbecue! Check out “Safeplace.” from their EP of the same name, and let the good times roll!

C M Artist Of The Week: Faultress

Faultress is our Artist Of The Week! The nom de plume of Rosi Croom, her music is truly captivating; a brooding mix of booming club-inflected beats and rhythms, cinematic soundscapes and delicately disorienting vocal layering. Her dexterous lyrical prowess is equally on display, exploring themes of loss, obsession and exploring what it means to be a woman today. One only needs a brief listen to our choice track, her latest single “Sanctuary”, to understand that this standout artist is one to watch:

C M Richer Unsigned Session – June

Summer is officially here, and the only things hotter than this heatwave we’re in the grip of are the performances that took place last month in Cambridge Audio’s Melomania space, as Cara Hammond and The Woods dropped by to entertain us with some stellar music!

Cara Hammond is an indie pop singer-songwriter originally from North Wales now based in London. She’s been writing songs since she was 11 and performing them since she was 14, graduating from the Leeds College of Music with a first in 2017. Her music is soulful-pop, drawing influence from some of her favorite artists like Amy Winehouse, Lianne La Havas, and Paolo Nutini but making it truly her own. Her deep and powerful voice bewitched us as she performed her set. When we asked her if she thought the platform Unsigned provides to up-and-coming artists was something she thought valuable, it was met with a resounding “YES!”. Cara has a brand new music video out for  “Good Times” which you can check out here as well, and she let us know she’s got more new music out this year, so keep your ears open!

Up next we had The Woods grace the Melomania stage, with a table (and floor) full of electronic gear he uses to creates his ‘one man band’ performances. The brainchild of Glasgow-born producer, vocalist & multi-instrumental live-loop artist Johnny McFadzean, The Woods crafts mesmerising and textural folktronica, with elements of RnB and pop deftly woven in (pardon the pun, we’re just big fans of his latest EP Night Silk Threads). His music has been described as “a cross between Jeff Buckley and James Blake”, which we feel is pretty spot on, however as you can see in the above video, McFadzean easily stands out from the pack on his own musical merits. He’s also cooking up some new music too, so stay tuned for that as well.

We want to thank all the music fans and industry insiders that swung through to support independent music, and of course a huge ‘thank you’ to Cara and Johnny for sharing their immense talents with us!

C M Artist Of The Week: French Alps Tiger

We’ve picked French Alps Tiger as our Artist Of The Week! A fusion of indie, punk and surf rock and named after an elusive tiger that lives in the French Alps, the band writes fun energetic songs that they say reminds them of being kids. Wavey guitars and bouncy, energetic rhythms are par for the course with this four-piece, highlighted perfectly in our choice cut “Tell a Lie”, which fans of Bass Drum of Death, Wavves and The Pixie will gobble up!

C M Artist Of The Week: Diminutive Arthur

Our Artist Of The Week is Diminutive Arthur! The persona of Manchester-based Lewis Cain, he crafts beats out of almost anything, with a heavy focus on old jazz, soul and funk records, as well as writing raps that reflect his experiences and outlook on life. The two forms come together to create sonics that are decidedly lo-fi, yet remain smooth and heady. Take a listen to “These Days” below to see what we mean:

C M Artist Of The Week: Hannah Slavin

Glasgow-born Hannah Slavin is our Artist Of The Week! Her catchy songs are energetic slices of soulful pop that are charming and sassy in equal measure, with honest and relatable lyrics. Acting like a page out of her personal diary, her music makes you feel like you’re hearing a close friend unwind and tell you about their crazy day. This carefree familiarity is on show in Hannah’s latest single “I Am A Mess” (a feeling a fair few of can certainly relate to…), which is why we’ve picked it as our choice track:
